The School of Primary Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, within the framework of the Postgraduate Studies Programme and the Centre of Pedagogical Research and Praxis (CPRP) organizes the 2nd International Conference titled "Disability Matters: Critically Examining Disablism and Ableism".
The conference will take place at the Tower of the Faculty of Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from April 19th to April 21st 2024. Greek and foreign academics and researchers, postgraduate students and disabled activists will participate.
The conference will be held in Greek and English and there will be interpreting in the Greek Sign Language. It is accessible for wheelchair users and Braille readers.
"Issues on the theorisation of disability on the basis of materialistic and poststructuralist approaches –distanced from biological, medical, normative theories of ableism– will be addressed and educational and social policies at a national and international level will be discussed.
The aim of the conference is to address disabling perspectives and discourses, epistemological and ontological issues of research, critique of existing institutions/organizations and the presentation of solidarity policies for the social group of disabled children and adults."
Dr Emmanouela Patiniotaki, founder and CEO of ATLAS E.P., will participate at the conference as a speaker on Saturday, April 20th and the topic of her presentation is titled "Funded Accessibility in the Arts and Ableism".
