INFROMATION ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Stella Diakatou, mentored by Persa Stamatopoulou, choreographer, contemporary dance and improvisation teacher, develops a new choreographed production that studies the gaze, distance, closeness and the need for human contact.

The dance is a kinetic study on the way we see ourselves, the other and the world around us. Three different bodies meet on stage, trying to reduce the distance among them and to express, through their movement, their need for connection. At the bottom of this creation lies a question “Do you see me?”.

A question touching the matter of seeing, the way we choose to see or don’t see somebody and the vulnerability arising from the moment the gaze becomes a place of acceptance.

The EXIS Mentorship Program creates a place of guidance, search, and trust through which the creator has the chance to cultivate her own creative voice. The mentor works as an external observer, leading the process through dialogue and her artistic guidance.

Through that process, EXIS supports the transition of the disabled artists from performing to creative leading, claiming a place where disabled dancers can be recognized as creators and choreographers bearing their own artistic suggestions.

The production will be performed only for three days from the 26th till the 28th of June at the accessible Black Box of ISON Dance-Theatre.
