ATLAS E.P. is honoured to share in fully accessible format with Audio Description and Surtitling of the music, the new fascinating dance performance of the Greek National Opera Ballet inspired by the life of the great Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Distinguished choreographer Cayetano Soto and Dario Suša stamp their mark on a high-intensity performance about the composer’s inner division, conducted by Philippe Forget.

Information about the performance

Although we are well aware of the unsurpassable music he composed and the way it affected and formed classical ballet, it remains largely unknown that the renowned composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky did not get to live his life as he had hoped. Distinguished choreographer Cayetano Soto and Dario Suša stamp their mark on a high-intensity performance about inner division  of the composer of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty.

Tchaikovsky seems to have been torn between the societal conventions of late-19th-century Russian society and his personal desires,

Despite the fact that he had tried to accept the sensitive aspect of his nature in order to find his real self, societal pressure dominated his entire life until his tragic death.

With their distinct dance vocabulary, comprised of nuanced details and grotesque versions of traditional movements, Soto and Suša create a ballet inspired by the composer’s collection of letters and archival documents that were published in 2009 from the Tchaikovsky Museum in Moscow.

Audiences, through this modern avant-garde performance, will be introduced to the less bright moments of this iconic legend of music and will get the chance to discover his life difficulties, his courage, but also his genius. At the same time, dancers are called upon to handle the piece with exceptional technical aptitude, imagination, and immense sensitivity.
